Sams first owner cared for him well but after his owners death Sam went to live with a horrible person in horrible conditions. He and his mate were subjected to constant cold temperatures and rarely fed. Sam was physically abused to the point that he was left blind in one eye and has permanent brain damage. 
This makes Sam a rather dangerous bird as he does not give warning signs before a bite. Sam requires a patient handler with jungle cat like reflexes.
